Experience
More than 24 years of experience in higher education leadership, economic research, and management practiceDr. Sunil Kumar is an economist, academic leader, and advisor. His work sits where economic analysis, institutional strategy, and education meet. He is currently Dean Academics at the International Institute of Technology, Design and Management (IITDM), Visakhapatnam. Before that, he spent ten years at Alliance University, Bengaluru, where he was Founding Head of the Department of Economics, Area Chair for General Management, and Deputy Registrar (Examinations & Evaluation). He also served as International Visiting Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Moscow.
His earlier career includes faculty and programme leadership roles at Amity University, the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, and ICFAI. Across these roles he has combined teaching and research with hands-on institutional management.

Academic Governance and Institutional Development
Dr. Kumar has led examination systems, academic councils, and accreditation work at university level. For eight years he managed the full examination process of a multi-school university with a team of 20. He has also served on global accreditation, doctoral, equivalence, and grievance committees, and was Nodal Officer for the Ministry of Education's National Academic Depository (NAD) project. He advises institutions on curriculum design, quality assurance, accreditation readiness, and policy implementation, including NEP 2020.
Economic and Business Analysis
He brings deep expertise in economic analysis, international business, trade policy, financial inclusion, and development economics. He has published over 38 international journal papers, five books, and eleven book chapters with publishers including Springer, Wiley, Emerald, and IGI Global. This gives him an evidence-based view of markets, policy, and business strategy. His commentary has appeared in India Today, The Indian Express, and Business Standard.
Research Methodology and Data Analytics
A trained econometrician, Dr. Kumar has been a resource person for faculty and researchers in India and abroad. His training covers R, STATA, regression modelling, and data analysis for research. He has worked as statistician on a funded socio-economic research project and reviews research proposals and papers for international bodies, including the Academy of Management.
Capability Building and Talent Assessment
He developed two copyrighted assessment tools: a Competency Mapping Scale for managerial-level professionals and the Occupational Interest Schedule for students, institutions, and businesses. He also holds four patents, including one for forecasting and optimising employee productivity using real-time data. He designs and delivers faculty development programmes, leadership sessions, and career-readiness workshops.
